Off to Karaganda !!

We have been very busy over the past few days gathering documents and trying to catch up on sleep. Jeanine and I got out to dinner last night (Got a sitter for the boys). Today we took Rebecca to get her passport photos. When we got in the car she got very frightened and cried most of the way, but finally settled down. We went to a very nice place for lunch. It was the best food I have had in Kazakhstan, homemade bread. The boys and Jeanine had chicken shish cabob. Dina had Lamb and I had this Lamb ribs with fried potatoes. I stuffed myself and put an end to my weight loss for sure, I could barely walk afterwards. We headed home and then Daniel and I walked over to the Ram Store for some Pepsi light, scotch tape (for wrapping) and a cake for our trip tomorrow. We were talked out of taking a train to Karaganda and have hired a driver instead.

I was feeling a little adventurous and wanted to try out the rail system but this made more sense, so logic prevailed to my dismay. So we are off to Karaganda early to visit the Nezabudka baby house where Daniel and James originally found us. The boys doctors and caretakers are coming in on Saturday to see them, they seem really excited, which is nice. I really didn’t expect them to go out of their way this much. We had planned to stay the one night in the presidential suite in the chiaka Hotel. Long story, we were desperate for hot water, actually any running water at all, when we were there 3 years ago and the only room available was the presidential suite so we stayed there our last 5 days.

It was huge, 2 full baths, Jacuzzi, several rooms and you could play soccer in the connecting corridor. It wasn’t real expensive for what we got (I think it was $95/ night), but we thought it would be memorable to go back and stay there. But we found out that the President is in Karaganda this weekend (go figure). We never thought the president actually stayed there!! I guess they redid the hotel in anticipation of his visit. So Elana insisted and offered her apartment and she will stay next door with her mother for the night. Kazkh Hospitality……

So we are off early morning for Karaganda. Here are some pictures over the past few days. Oh, The boys and I got haircuts today!

Hope you have a great trip to Karaganda! It's really nice that the Dr.s and caretakers are coming in to see the boys. Looks like they have made some friends in Kazakhstan and are having a good time.

Good luck Monday. By the way, which judge did you get?

Hi guys! We'll be thinking of you on Monday as well and look forward to hearing how court went. Enjoy your trip to Karaganda - the folks from the boys' baby home will be so glad to see you all and to see how much (and how well) James and Daniel have grown!

Cheers,
Carolyn
